Virtual Chef is an ongoing project initiated by Caravansarai.
Virtual Chef projects begin by making a connection to an individual in a foreign country. This chef provides us with a list of ingredients to collect for the meal.
We then start our research.
- Where can we find these ingredients in our current location?
- Are there specialty shops in specific areas?
- How does the culinary traditions of another country affect the tastes of local ingredients?
As we source the ingredients, we gather information, meet people, explore new parts of our environment.
Documentation from these adventures becomes an important part of the ongoing project.
On the night of the dinner, we are connected live to our ‘virtual’ chef with sound and (if possible) video. The chef takes us step by step through the cooking of the meal, sharing memories or other stories associated with the dishes being cooked. Both the virtual chef and the global audience can watch the meal being cooked through our live media stream (internet tv).
